Abstract: David Houghton is originally from Philadelphia where he attended mainly Quaker schools as a child. His childhood interest in the weather led him to an undergraduate degree in meteorology from Penn State . He received his doctorate degree from the University of Washington . Before coming to the University of Wisconsin – Madison in 1968 he was a researcher at the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Colorado for five years. His research interests include a focus on the ocean-atmospheric climate system and the use of satellite and computer applications to pursue this research. In retirement Dr. Houghton has presented many public talks locally, statewide, nationwide and worldwide ( China , Russia , Korea , Argentina , and Japan ) on global climate change. This interview was conducted for inclusion in the UW-Madison Oral History Program.
