Abstract: In his four June/July 2007 interviews with Bob Lange, John Young discussed his early life, education and career in Meteorology (later rename Atmospheric & Oceanic Sciences) at the University of Wisconsin . Young spoke about his experiences, and namely his involvement with the U.S. Weather Bureau, the Center for Climatic Research, the development of Geophysical Fluid Dynamics, and the Tropical Ocean Global Atmosphere Program. He also commented on the UW Department of Meteorology’s national reputation, his work as an administrator, and offered his comments on funding and the tenure process. This interview was conducted for inclusion into the UW—Madison Oral History Program.
